Like many collectors, Lincoln Pennies was the first
thing I started collecting as a child. I started out
with two Whitman folders and dreamed of filling in all
the empty spaces! Wheats were plentiful in circulation
at that time, so I was able to fill in most of the spaces
many years ago. Recently I decided to stop collecting
used pennies at 1958, the last year of the Wheaties.
From 1959 to date, I collect pennies in mint or proof
condition in the Mint Set and Proof Set albums. My son is collecting circulated Lincoln Memorial pennies and Lincoln Shield pennies in Dansco albums.
Highlights
Most of the pennies were collected from circulation
when I was a child, so even though they may not be
the best examples, they have some sentimental value!
The 1922 Plain is NOT a Philadelphia mint coin,
but a Denver mint coin where the die was so worn the
mint mark disappeared. These are rather expensive,
and a "weak D" coin is much more affordable,
so I filled that space with a weak D, although I may eventually replace the 1922 weak D with a 1922 plain.
