I wanted a reasonably complete collection of Uncirculated
Mint coins starting in 1959. I picked 1959 since that
was the first year for Lincoln Memorial cents. I have
a Lincoln Wheat collection, so that year made sense.
There were many considerations:
There was a large date and a small date for the
1960P and 1960D pennies. My Mint Set for 1960 has
both large date varieties, so the small date varieties
are included slabbed on page 1 of the first album.
The Mint Sets issued in 1965 through 1967 were designated
Special Mint Sets. The 1965 set was packaged in a
sealed plastic pouch and is on page 5 of the first
album. The 1966 and 1967 sets were issued in hard
plastic holders and are stored on page 1 of the first
album.
There was a large date and a small date S mint penny
issued in 1970. The large date is in the Mint Set.
The small date variety is in a slab on page 1 of the
first album. That slab is for an uncirculated business
strike. See the Proof album for the 1970S small date
proof strike.
The Eisenhower dollars ("Ikes") are missing
from the 1971 and 1972 Mint Sets. There were three
different types of the 1972P Ike. All varieties of
both years are on page 8 of the first album.
There were two varieties of the 1979P Susan B Anthony
dollar. The Narrow Rim variety is in the Mint Set,
so the Wide Rim variety is in a slab on page 8 of
the first album.
There were 7 varieties of pennies in 1982 based
on Copper versus Zinc compounding and large versus
small dates. Instead of trying to figure out which
2 were in the Mint Sets, I just got all 7 varieties
slabbed and placed them on page 2 of the second album.
