Jefferson Nickels (1938 - 2005)

Highlights

This collection is special since almost EVERY coin from 1938 to 1964 was collected by my father from his pocket change. He stopped collecting nickels in 1964 but he had an old Whitman folder almost 100% complete through 1964. I bought a Dansco album that runs through 2005, the year he died, and decided to fill in the few missing coins prior to 1964 and get as many as possible from circulation to complete 1965 through 2005.

Noodling for nickels in rolls and from change drawers around town was fun and very productive because there aren't any real rarities from 1965 to 2005. I did find a 1972 S proof in circulation in the process, and the very last coin to complete the collection was a 2004 D Peace Pipes nickel. It's a little rough looking, but I got it in change from the liquor store. Dad would have liked that!

I switched out the last page with a Dansco 21mm blank page to minimize the empty ports and used scrap pieces of the outer "pleather" from a scrap Dansco page to block out unused ports.

My son is collecting the new design Jefferson Nickles starting with 2006, collected from circulation, in a Dansco album.
